Introduction to Printmaking
This beginner course in Printmaking will include the history and tools used, how to carve properly and how to print by hand using up to two colours. Because this is a 9 week course, we will introduce all of the materials used in relief printing, including woodcutting, lino printing, soft cut, collagraph and experimental surfaces. Students will learn to hand print on paper as well as fabric. This course will teach you everything you need to know to get started making cards, prints or t-shirts of your own designs.
Students are responsible to purchase their own supplies. A supply list will be sent out 2 weeks before the beginning of the course.
A 50% deposit is required to secure your spot, as space is limited.

I would recommend this course in a heartbeat."
"I took a lot of printmaking when I was at university and really enjoyed it, but hadn't kept up with it after graduating as I was too intimidated to try it outside a formal studio setting. I had really missed being able to do print, and the advanced printmaking class was a perfect way to get back into printing as it focused on techniques that could easily be done at home with less expensive materials and didn't waste time going over the basic techniques of printmaking (which I already knew).
I can be a bit picky about classes I take, but I was extremely happy with my experience in this one. I made some great prints and learned way more than I thought I would, including some techniques I wouldn't have picked up on my own. Jen was an awesome teacher - extremely knowledgeable and went out of her way to be helpful both in and out of class. I would recommend this course in a heartbeat."
I looked forward to the class each week and I have a new love of linocut.
"Jen is a fantastic teacher -- she puts a lot of thought into the curriculum and she's super knowledgeable and encouraging. I loved how we can do all the techniques we learned at home. I looked forward to the class each week and I have a new love of linocut. Sign up for a class -- you won't regret it!"
Jen is the best art teacher around! She is encouraging, knowledgeable and meticulously well prepared.
"I have taken a couple of drawing courses with Jen at Fanshawe College as well as her (super-fun) 'Introduction to Printmaking' course earlier this year. Just recently I've been attending her Drop in Drawing classes at Rockingham Studio. Jen is the best art teacher around! She is encouraging, knowledgeable and meticulously well prepared. I love her new studio and small class sizes. Whether you are an experienced artist or just starting out, I highly recommend Jen Hamilton and Rockingham Studio."
